Pop vs Love

Thanks god Winter sales are officially over and Spring Summer 2010 issues are finally out. Last week it was all about the new issues of bi-annual magazines Pop (Bauer Media) and LOVE (Conde Nast) hitting shelves...

  • Condé Nast's title produced eight different covers for its 'fashion icons' issue, featuring naked cover stars including Kate Moss, Naomi Campbell and Lara Stone. All shot by Mert & Marcus, art directed once again by Suburbia. On the website front, the team has kept is pretty minimal; black background and a simple player to The LOVE Thing, a movie directed by LOVE editor Katie Grand and James Lima (see below).   • One girl, two covers for Pop. Model is Abbey Lee Kershaw, shot by Richard Prince. Website wise, editor Dasha Zhukova launched Pop’s digital format as thepop.com last September. Providing an integrated platform for the Pop team and its partners, the  website provides pretty good content. So many blogs on there, hours of browsing.

WHEN COCO IS EVERYWHERE

It's the movie I have been waiting for the past 6 months... Directed by Anne Fontaine, Coco avant Chanel relates the life of Gabrielle Chanel before she becomes the legend we know. Adapted from Edmonde Charles-Roux’s biography L’irreguliere the movie finally opens in France on April 22! Audrey Tautou as Coco, Benoit Poelvoorde, Marie Gillain, Emmanuelle Devos... It's la crème de la crème... 


Not to be missed neither: the current issue of French Vogue entirely dedicated to the icon. AMAZING.

On the cover, Iris Strubegger covered head to toe in Chanel. Shot by Mert & Marcus (yes them AGAIN) it is actually an homage to a 1992 Italian Vogue cover shot by Steven Meisel with Kristen McMenamy. 

'Fashion fades, only style remains the same', merci Mademoiselle.

YSL is launching a new perfume for men in March - La Nuit de l’Homme - fronted by my fav French actor Vincent Cassel …

It is said the jus is an oriental fragrance but who really cares? What I am interested in is the hot picture of Vincent Cassel shot by Mert & Marcus (do they ever stop working these two?!)


Film signed by Gaspard Noe who directed Cassel in the brilliant film Irreversible – to be apparently coming soon on youtube…

MERT & MARCUS PT2

If you look at the SS09 new campaign adverts it seems they all have been done by Mert & Marcus... Armani (with Victoria Beckham), MiuMiu (with Katie Holmes), Valentino (with Stephanie Seymour), Longchamp... That is a bit scary.

Longchamp are taking some really interesting directions these days. It's been a couple of seasons they are using Kate Moss but I wasn't convinced at all and I must say this SS09 new campaign is so far the best. I really like it. The models (Kate Moss and Russian model Sasha Pivovarova) look amazing, the colours are fantastic and the styling almost too good to be Longchamp. 

Very Bourdin, very much what I like.
